Evolving Connection Weights for Pattern Storage and Recall in Hopfield Model of Feedback Neural Networks Using a Genetic Algorithm

ABSTRACT 

In this paper, implementation of a genetic algorithm has been described to store and later, recall of some prototype patterns in Hopfield neural network associative memory. Various operators of genetic algorithm (mutation, cross-over, elitism etc) are used to evolve the population of optimal weight matrices for the purpose of storing the patterns and then recalling of the patterns with induced noise was made, again using a genetic algorithm. The optimal weight matrices obtained during the training are used as seed for starting the GA in recalling, instead starting with random weight matrix. A detailed study of the comparison of results thus obtained with the earlier results has been done. It has been observed that for Hopfield neural networks, recall of patterns is more successful if evolution of weight matrices is applied for training purpose also.

Current Status and Future Research Directions in Monitoring Vigilance of Individual or Mass Audience in Monotonous Working Environment

ABSTRACT

Working in monotonous environment often causes lack of concentration or fatigue in an operator and many times such non-vigilance leads to accidents. Therefore early detection of fatigued state has become essential in monotonous working environments like driving vehicle, operating machines etc. Such fatigued state often gets developed gradually and can be identified by certain symptoms. Different types of symptoms help in modelling non-vigilance in different ways. This paper reviews and compares current status of research in modelling fatigue where fatigue is modelled using probabilistic models, machine learning models, finite state machine etc. The paper also presents possible future research directions in the same field like identifying non-fatigue non-vigilance mental states, extending non-vigilance monitoring for mass audience etc.

Accuracy Driven Artificial Neural Networks in Stock Market Prediction

ABSTRACT

Globalization has made the stock market prediction (SMP) accuracy more challenging and rewarding for the researchers and other participants in the stock market. Local and global economic situations along with the company’s financial strength and prospects have to be taken into account to improve the prediction accuracy. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) has been identified to be one of the dominant data mining techniques in stock market prediction area. In this paper, we survey different ANN models that have been experimented in SMP with the special enhancement techniques used with them to improve the accuracy. Also, we explore the possible research strategies in this accuracy driven ANN models.
